From 11–13 September 2026, the Embassy of Russia in Rwanda, together with its partners, organized the Russian Language and Culture Festival, known as #MeetRussia. The three-day festival brought together a variety of activities, including Russian language sessions, workshops, photo exhibitions, film screenings, competitions, awards, and other cultural activities.
The festival provided an opportunity for Rwandans and international residents in Rwanda to learn more about the Russian language and culture while discovering different aspects of Russia.
One of the highlights of the festival was the Russian language competition, which included a speaking category. Rwandan participants took part in the competition and demonstrated their knowledge and ability to communicate in Russian.
Three Rwandans; Nsenguwera Desire, Mukamana, and Kanyana were awarded during the festival for their participation and performance in the Russian language competition.
For the winners, the competition was also an opportunity to demonstrate how learning a foreign language can create opportunities for education, communication, and cultural exchange.
Nsenguwera Desire, one of the winners, expressed his appreciation for being part of the festival and the competition.
“It is a pleasure to attend this festival and participate in the Russian language competition. I learned the language when I went to study in Russia. Russian language helps in communication between people, and I recommend young Rwandans to learn it because it can help them in the future.”
Promoting cultural exchange, the events such as the Russian Language and Culture Festival also provide spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet, learn from one another, and strengthen cultural connections.
For Rwanda’s young people, learning languages such as Russian can also provide opportunities to connect with people from other countries, pursue education, and participate in international cultural exchanges.
The New classrooms of learning Russian Language is starting and will take 2 months and it is free to attend the class.
